Remee Sleep Mask for Lucid Dreaming
From the website: “Remee is a sleep mask designed to help increase the frequency of your lucid dreams.”
The mask is very comfortable. The fabric and padding is very soft and gentle against your eye lids and its band is adjustable so you can make it as tight or as loose as you’d like.
On the inside there are 3 LED lights on each side of the mask, covering each eye. The brightness as well as the flashing pattern of the lights are adjustable, so you can find the combination that works for you.
The product’s promise is to send these visual cues to your sleeping mind and cause you to remember that you are asleep. I used this product for 3 weeks almost every night. I got into the habit of waking up from the lights, turning them off, and then trying to go back to sleep -not always successfully. One time I did achieve lucidity after I fell back asleep almost immediately after having been woken up by the lights. What happened was that I woke up, turned off the lights, and was teetering on the edge of wakefulness and sleep in a state conscious enough to tell myself, “I am in a lucid dream now, I am in a lucid dream now.” And sure enough, I became fully present in my dream and immediately took off into the sky for some aeronautical acrobatics.
Another time, because of the gentleness of the wake-up it produced in me, I woke up at around 2 am and was able to clearly recall exactly what I had been dreaming at the time. This is novel for me, because I generally only remember dreams that happen in the last 2 hours or so before awaking. So that was a treat.
The product does deliver its promise, but I think it is important to point out that the product alone won’t magically induce lucid dreaming. As pointed out in several books on lucid dreaming and out-of-the-body experiences, one has to be constantly thinking about OBEs and Astral projections in order for those thoughts to carry over into their dream life. It takes almost an obsession. The 1 experience I had above was during a time I was reading a book about lucid dreaming and I was thoroughly fascinated with it and thinking about it all day long. So the Remee mask is a good adjunctive tool for serious inquiry into lucid dreaming.
Yet, for me, these lights were little more than a wakeup call. It was much better than noisy alarm clocks, but it was still a mere wake up device. But the gentleness of the wake up allowed my transition to waking state to be smoother and not so abrupt. This helped raise my awareness at the times when I was mostly still asleep.
For the price, it is definitely worth trying out.
